When my nan, Maria Mika Applebaum, left Greece in the year 1950 at 18 years old, life was tough for almost everyone. Greece had adept a finished fighting a bloody civilised fight that left many parts of her hometown of Athens destroyed. That war in combination with World War II adept a few years caused Greeces economy to fill out downhill leaving large numbers of citizens in debt. It was these harsh epochs that cause so many people including my nanna to immigrate to the United States of America. It was the belief that you could have a better, to a greater extent prosperous life in the bullionen country of America. When my gran came to the ground forces she arrived at the port of New York but actually had already been offered a Fulbright scholarship to University of Montana.
